Robert Oscar Lopez is Associate Professor of English and Classics at California State University-Northridge. His monograph, Colorful Conservative: American Conversations with the Ancients from Wheatley to Whitman examined the influence of antique authers like Horace, Cato, Virgil, and Homer on nineteenth-century American literature, especially early queer and black writing. His interest in the rhetoric of human rights led him to the children’s rights movement. He founded English Manif, a blogging collective in defense of children, and has published and lectured extensively in Europe and the US on kids’ rights.
